Medical Advocacy

Program Overview

Our STOP IPV Medical Advocacy Program provides Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) services in medical settings—helping patients at clinics and hospitals connect with life-saving resources. Our advocates work on site in several hospital systems in the Philadelphia region and cover emergency departments, primary care clinics, women’s health clinics, inpatient hospital floors, and community health centers. When we connect with clients, whether they are in the emergency department after an assault, or at their children’s doctor for a routine check-up, we offer empathetic listening, safety planning, and connections to resources.

Our work in the medical setting also addresses the healthcare settings we work in, creating healthcare systems that are better equipped to meet the needs of survivors. Our advocates train healthcare professionals to provide compassionate care to survivors, and meet with hospital administrators to ensure their policies reflect survivor needs. We also engage hospital staff at all levels to join us in making their workplace safe and welcoming to survivors and their families.
