| Senior Center Mission Statement

The Lutheran Settlement House Senior Center supports vital, healthy aging and cultivates community connections for older adults in Philadelphia while encouraging them to take an active role in leading a self determined life.

Lutheran
Settlement House’s Senior Center provides
community-based services that enhance the quality of life for
older adults, age 60 and above.
LSH’s Senior Center offers a full schedule of programs that
provide for basic nutritional and social needs, as well as opportunities
that promote independence and individual well-being. A full-time
social worker is on staff to assist our clients with problems,
with referrals, and to aid seniors in understanding and securing
entitlements.
LSH’s
Senior Center’s warm and inviting atmosphere provides seniors
a “home away from home.” Each day starts with coffee,
tea, and baked goods, and a hot, nutritious meal is served at
noon. The Center is open every weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. In 2001-2002, LSH’s Senior Center served more than
250 seniors from the community. We welcome drop-ins and new members
at any time!
We
encourage an active, healthy lifestyle for all of our participants.
Speakers
from the Philadelphia Corporation on Aging’s (PCA) Health
Promotion Program and from other area health care providers are
scheduled on a regular basis. Information and screenings on heart
disease, diabetes, glaucoma, nutrition, cancer and a variety of
other health related topics are presented weekly. Activities offered
at the Center include line dancing, shooting pool, playing bingo,
and participation in a variety of classes such as computer, ceramics,
painting, and other crafts. Holidays are celebrated with parties.
Day trips to areas of interest take place monthly and the highlight
of the year is a weeklong trip to Wildwood, New Jersey.
