Recently re-opened, Jane Addams Place is a comprehensive emergency
shelter for up to twenty nine mothers with children in Philadelphia. At Jane
Addams Place, Child and Family Advocates take a holistic framework in
assisting residents by focusing on family systems and employing a trauma
informed model so that families can regain and maintain permanent housing
and employment.
LSH provides a diverse group of programs to residents in order to assist
families in overcoming barriers to stability and self-sufficiency:
Adult Educational Programs: Classes offered include English as a second
language, adult literacy classes and GED courses.
Life Skill Programs: Classes offered at Jane Addams Place include parenting,
financial management, self-advocacy, family health and nutrition.
Youth Programs: For our younger residents, Jane Addams Place also offers homework help, family play group, chess club, preschool play, drumming, therapeutic arts programming, Rap ‘n Chat, family literacy and summer camps.
Housing Placement: Through the Office of Supportive Housing (OSH),
Advocates connect residents to transitional and permanent housing.
Referral Services: Advocates connect residents to outside organizations so
families can access health care services, drug and alcohol abuse programs,
mental health treatment, education opportunities, job placement and
counseling services.
