July
Press Conference
Funding Announcement for the Lutheran Settlement House Renovation

On July 31st, 2006 a host of city and state officials including State Representative Curtis Thomas, State Representative Dwight Evans and Councilman Darrell Clarke gathered at a press conference to announce resources for the renovation of the Lutheran Settlement House. Funded by a $500,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant delivered by State Representative Curtis Thomas and Representative Dwight Evans.
“I am proud to have sponsored the State Capital Grant for Lutheran Settlement,” stated Representative Thomas. “I also am glad to have had the support of Representative Evans and my colleagues in both the House and Senate.”
This grant will be used to renovate Lutheran Settlement House 84-year old main site and the construction of a new multi-service building. The current facility was built in 1922 as a three-story brick Georgian Revival building. Due to the growing demand for LSH’s services, the current facility has become overcrowded and is proving to be too small to meet the needs of program participants.
“Lutheran Settlement House has provided an invaluable service to the City of Philadelphia and its residents for over 100 years,” said Representative Evans. “This expansion will enable them to serve thousands of more citizens in need, and I am honored to partner with Representative Thomas and others in making this project a reality.”
