Lutheran Settlement House’s Community Education and Employment Department (CEED ) provides a wide variety of educational and career opportunities to people from all walks of life. We offer morning, afternoon and evening classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), Literacy and Family Literacy, basic reading and writing skills, and the GED. A technology-oriented, career-training program is offered to the homeless population of Philadelphia. We also work with the Department of Public Welfare to support people in planning for and finding educational and career opportunities.

Each year we serve well over one thousand residents of Philadelphia who want to improve their lives. Students from our  programs have achieved important milestones in their lives. Successes include: a homeless woman getting a good paying job, a new English speaker going on to college, and a middle-aged man returning to get his GED in order to improve his work skills. Everyday our participants change their lives for the better!
