Lutheran Settlement House’s Community
Education and Employment Department (CEED )
provides a wide variety of educational and career opportunities
to people from all walks of life. We offer morning, afternoon and
evening classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), Literacy
and Family Literacy, basic reading and writing skills, and the
GE
D.
A technology-oriented, career-training program is offered to the
homeless population of Philadelphia. We also work with the Department
of Public Welfare to support people in planning for and finding
educational and career opportunities.
Each
year we serve well o
ver
one thousand residents of Philadelphia who want to improve their
lives. Students from our programs have achieved important milestones
in their lives. Successes includ
e:
a homeless woman getting a good paying job, a new English speaker
going on to college, and a middle-aged man returning to get his
GED in order to improve his work skills. Everyday our participants
change their lives for the better!
